Firebird's Slant on Newbies

A day or two ago I saw an interesting comment. Something to the tune of Anyone here over level 25 seems to abhore helping newbies. This is completely false. It should read Anyone with any sense SHOULD abhore helping STUPID newbies...there's a tremendous difference. A newbie is someone new to the category in which you apply it. In our case, new to Alter Aeon. A stupid newbie is someone who spams/flames/begs/whines etc...

Yes I do help a newbie occasionally. I might not give them directions to some place in sssuundddd open brain sesesessssssemeseseed but I tell them follow the southern road until you see an upward exit. Good enough advice no? Then the newbie, ahem, stupid newbie completely disregards my dirs and poses the question 30 seconds later. I tell him again. A little while later he asks again...ignoring all my gossips. When 10 people yell "He's already told you dirs" he waits a couple of minutes and asks again, this time using please. It's happened again and again.

I don't grab a bunch of eq and hand it to a newbie just so he can die at vorpal bunnies and lose it all...but I will tell him what eq he should get, where to get it...and some tips to avoid meeting death at the hands of vorpal bunnies.

99.999999% of newbie questions could be answered by the help files. When I point this out to the little smeg, he usually ignores me and asks again. When everyone starts yelling, aww nevermind, just read the dirs paragraph. Same crap different toilet.

Experience? Look up the word in a dictionary. You get something along the lines of knowledge gained from any situation observed or lived through Running through Does or Djinnis or something while the newbie get's a bunch of spam watching the xp rack up isn't really observing. Better yet, tell your newbie where he can get some good xp, or tell him what good xp for his level IS. I remember being sad because as a level 1 I was killing 500 xp mobs and people were telling me that wasn't a lot.

You can tell who isn't a stupid newbie by those who act as a person in real life would. People don't walk into rooms and ask everyone in the room the same question six times before they have time to answer. That's all I have to say about that...oh yeah, my slogan: Just say no to questions.

A real life newbie scenario.
