Wow, we're getting pretty darn lazy. Normally whenever a change comes to the mud, this board lights up with bitching. The same thing always happens. A couple players just rehash "this fucking sucks", a few elaborate on "this fucking sucks", then some cute Imm makes a one line smart remark...then I post some two page essay about how great a mud this is and how much i liked the change. Then Dentin deletes all that crap and replies email style with the >'s and everything.
Well, I'm switching teams for the moment...For the moment I am agreeing with all you people I'm usually at odds with. I think "this fucking sucks."
When avatars were first suggested I was all for it, hopefully to remove the spam/asininity (word? no? oh well) on gossip. I was under the impression that this would also help put an end to the recent war that has taken over gossip. Oh indeed it did. I understood Dentin's displeasure with the current condition of the public channels and the animosity shown by a bunch of players. I thought to myself, "Hey! I think that giving some mortals who are around a good bit the ever-so- cool ability to nogos people we'd be a very happy mud." Then one day when all was quiet on the IMMchannel Dentin gave us the news that TADA! Avatar's were in!!! I was all into it, then I return the next day to find everyone tip toeing around the hanful of avatars. Everytime the word fuck rang out an avatar "warned" the player. Now I get the same crap when I try to misc something?!?! This is insane.
Dentin, avatar's are great...but their goal should be to quell a huge flame war or two once a week, not turn into Gossip-Guardians(tm) who police it like it was the underworld. If you'd started out light and then, if that didn't work, get a little stricter, it would have a more powerful effect than going iron-fisted all of a sudden.
Cussing here is a way of life...we're all uncouth bastards, most of which have too small a vocabulary to say anything else. The stray "fuck" or "shit" doesn't hurt anyone, and doesn't make anyone want to start a-flamin'. The only thing that makes me want to do that is "No saying fuck" or "that's your second warning Firebird".
People aren't quiet because they no flaming and warring and shit
talking is a bad thing to do, they're quiet cuz everytime a cuss word
or two pops out an avatar crams a friggin flag down their throat.
